Cass County Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on December 20, 2024, at approximately 1744 hours, his Deputies responded to a two vehicle Injury Crash, at the intersection of M 40 and Shavehead Lake St., Porter Township, Cass County, Michigan.
The initial investigation showed that the vehicle driven by Christopher Bingaman (39yrs of Constantine, MI) was heading North bound on M 40 when a vehicle driven by Thomas Yoder (22 yrs of Shipshewana, IN) was driving eastbound on Shavehead Lake St. and failed to yield to oncoming traffic on M 40. Bingaman's vehicle left the road way coming to rest in a field. Bingaman along with his passengers, Matthew Walter ( 39 yrs of Three Rivers, MI) and a juvenile were transported by Porter ambulance to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for injuries sustained in this crash. Yoder was treated by EMS on scene.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Assisting agencies on scene were Newberg Fire and EMS and Porter / SEPSA EMS.
The crash remains under investigation.
