Winter Weather Advisory until 06:00AM Monday
...FRONTAL PASSAGE TO BRING RAIN AND SNOW... .Area of low pressure is expected to move northwest into the Gulf of Alaska. As the low tracks north, the associated front will move northward through the panhandle. This front is expected to usher in warmer air but with cold air already in place, parts of the northern panhandle will see snow before the switch to rain. If the warmer air is slow to track northward, total snowfall amounts will be higher than expected. For now, thinking the heaviest snowfall will be limited to the Haines Highway, near Klukwan and farther west, with mainly rain for Haines.
* WHAT...Wet snow expected. Total snow accumulations of up to 8 inches along the Haines Highway, especially near the border.
* WHERE...Haines Borough and Klukwan.
* WHEN...From 6 AM Sunday to 6 AM AKST Monday.
* IMPACTS...Travel could be difficult.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Highest snowfall totals will be out the road at the higher elevations of the Haines Highway. Higher snowfall amounts are possible if temperatures do not warm up as fast as expected.
* AFFECTED AREAS: HAINES BOROUGH AND KLUKWAN
