Two Separate Vehicle Collisions Result in Three Fatalities on Monterey Road

The Morgan Hill Police Department responded to two separate vehicle collisions that tragically resulted in three fatalities earlier today.

At approximately 3:00 a.m., a single-vehicle rollover collision was reported downtown at Third Street and Monterey Road. The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle lost control of the vehicle and collided with multiple trees and a fire hydrant in the center median. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

At 8:44 a.m., an unrelated fatal collision occurred on Monterey Road near Middle Avenue, close to Calderon Tires. A preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle was traveling northbound on Monterey Road at a high rate of speed, lost control, and collided with a vehicle traveling southbound on Monterey Road. The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced deceased at the scene.

As the holiday season approaches, we at the Morgan Hill Police Department want to remind everyone in our community of the importance of safe driving during this festive time of year. Celebrations, gatherings, and travel can bring joy, but they also bring increased risks on our roads.
Here are key reminders to help keep everyone safe:

  1. Don’t Drive Impaired: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs endangers not only your life but also the lives of others. Plan by designating a sober driver, using a rideshare service, or arranging alternate transportation.
  2. Slow Down and Stay Focused: Holiday traffic can be stressful. Obey speed limits, eliminate distractions, and stay alert. A few extra minutes of patience can save lives.
  3. Buckle Up: Ensure everyone in your vehicle is wearing a seatbelt, regardless of how short the trip may be.
  4. Watch for Pedestrians: With increased holiday shopping and activities, pedestrians are more active. Be vigilant, especially in crosswalks and busy areas.
  5. Be Weather Ready: If driving conditions are poor due to snow, rain, or ice, slow down and increase your following distance.
Let’s make this holiday season a time for celebration. Together, we can ensure our roads remain safe for everyone.
