Incident Summary
On Saturday night, Petaluma PD deployed six officers to conduct a DUI Saturation Patrol as part of our ongoing Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Grant. These officers were specifically patrolling and looking for impaired drivers. Between 4:00 PM and 2:00 AM, officers arrested 6 drivers for driving under the influence.
We observed several people visiting the downtown area that evening enjoying our restaurants and bar establishments. The holiday season is upon us with much cheer in the air. The Petaluma Police Department would like to remind everyone who chooses to visit and enjoy Petaluma during this holiday season, to plan ahead and either designate a sobor driver, use ride share or call a taxi to avoid drinking and driving. The Petaluma Police Department will continue to have these operations during the holiday season. And please remember, Driving Under the Influence is 100% preventable.
The Petaluma Police Department is committed to increasing overall traffic safety and reducing the number of alcohol-related collisions. We will continue our efforts to locate and identify impaired drivers. Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 to $20,000 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
If you witness a suspected DUI driver, the Petaluma Police Department encourages citizens to call 911.
Funding for the DUI Saturation Patrol was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The Petaluma Police Department would like to wish everyone a wonderful and safe holiday.
