Amarillo Police Update on Investigation of Cecilia Ferguson’s Death

DETAILS: On November 26, 2024, the Amarillo Police Department (APD) responded to a call in the 3800 block of NE 14th Street regarding the death of 106-year-old Cecilia Ferguson. Ms. Ferguson resided at this location with her grandson, 35-year-old Michael Alexander Ferguson. Upon arriving at the scene, officers noted suspicious circumstances surrounding Ms. Ferguson’s death. As a result, the APD Homicide Unit was called to take over the investigation. Michael Alexander Ferguson was interviewed by Homicide Investigators during the course of the investigation. Although he denied any involvement in his grandmother’s death, he was subsequently arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center on charges of Injury to the Elderly.
On December 23, 2024, following further investigation, APD Homicide Investigators upgraded the charge against Michael Alexander Ferguson to Murder. A warrant issued by the Potter County District Attorney’s Office alleges that Mr. Ferguson caused the death of Ms. Ferguson. Michael Ferguson remains in custody at the Potter County Detention Center.
