On December 17, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Rock County Communications Center received a call from an individual reporting a shooting in the 300 block of North High Street. The first officer arrived on the scene within about three minutes. Inside the apartment building, officers discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Immediate medical care was provided until paramedics could arrive. The victim was subsequently transported to a local medical facility, where he remains in critical condition as of December 23, 2024.
A significant police presence was established in the 300 block of North High Street to secure the crime scene. At approximately 12:30 p.m. on December 18, officers executed two search warrants in the vicinity, during which officers recovered items of evidentiary value related to the ongoing investigation.
The Janesville Police Department's patrol division, street crimes unit, and detective bureau have been working continuously to investigate this incident. The department emphasizes that such occurrences are treated with the utmost seriousness, and every measure will be taken to ensure the safety of community members. Currently, there is no evidence suggesting any direct threats to the community.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives have identified the suspect in this shooting as Deonte L. Foster. He is described as a 41-year-old, African American male, about 5’9” in height, 180 pounds, with short brown hair, and brown eyes, with notable a scar on his forehead and tattoos. The tattoos include a neck tattoo that reads “Ashley” and a left forearm tattoo that reads “Dirty Block.” He has two piercings in his left ear. Deonte Foster is being sought for Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide in connection with this incident.
