INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Westbound Highway 18, east of Quinnault Road, Apple Valley
SUSPECT(S): Involved Party #1, Vicente Zuniga-Medina, 45-year-old Hispanic male,resident of Hesperia, blue 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander.
VICTIM(S): Involved Party #2, Samantha Haun (aka Alex Robles), 30-year-old Hispanic female, resident of Victorville, blue 2016 Honda Civic- Deceased
SUMMARY: On Monday, December 23, 2024, at about 8:04 p.m., deputies in Apple Valley responded to a two-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, deputies learned Samantha Haun drove west on Highway 18, east of Quinnault Road. Vicente Zuniga-Medina drove east in the westbound lanes of Highway 18, east of Quinnault Road. Zuniga-Medina collided head-on into Haun and Haun was pronounced deceased on scene.
Zuniga-Medina showed signs and symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol. Zuniga-Medina submitted to an intoximeter test, and his breath test result was 0.22% blood alcohol content.
Zuniga-Medina sustained a broken foot and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Zuniga-Medina was arrested for Penal Code 191.5(a), Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated with Gross Negligence and was booked in the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto.
Westbound Highway 18 from Central Road to Quinnault Road was closed for about five hours for the investigation.
