Hoboken Menorah Lighting Sunday; Reminder to clear property after snow events
Menorah Lighting this Sunday
The City of Hoboken invites residents to celebrate Chanukah at the annual menorah lighting on Sunday, Dec. 29, at 5 p.m.
The free, family-friendly celebration, at Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington St., is co-hosted by the Chabad of Hoboken and Jersey City and will feature a gelt drop by the Hoboken Fire Department, speakers, singing, music, and holiday treats.
Please be advised of street closures in the area starting at approximately 4 p.m. until approximately 7 p.m. including:
- Washington Street between Observer Highway and First Street.
- Newark Street between Hudson and Bloomfield Streets.
- First Street between Bloomfield and Washington Streets.
NJ Transit buses will be re-routed onto Bloomfield and Hudson Streets during this time. Please abide by posted Temporary No Parking signs and prepare for temporary traffic delays in the immediate area. Hoboken Police will be on hand to assist with detours.
Keep sidewalks and curb ramps clear after snow events
While the City's Department of Parks, Recreation, & Public Works will salt and plow streets when necessary, property owners and occupants are reminded that they have six (6) hours after the completion of a snow event to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property, along with adjoining curb ramps or curb cuts.
Residents are urged to use caution when shoveling or removing snow and/or ice and assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing snow from their properties. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto streets or onto fire hydrants.
The City performs proactive inspections and relies on citizen complaints to help identify property owners that are not meeting sidewalk safety requirements. While most property owners comply with the safety regulations, the City will issue fines to those who do not keep sidewalks clear.
To report an un-shoveled sidewalk, please email [email protected].
