Wilmington Police arrest man in connection to November fatal stabbing incident:
Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection to a November fatal stabbing incident.
On November 1, at approximately 11:24 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 1800 block of West 4th Street in reference to check of the welfare complaint. Upon arrival, police located 30-year-old Tyler Ponzo suffering from a laceration to his arm. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries. A death investigation was conducted by police in conjunction with the Delaware Division of Forensic Sciences, and it was determined that the victim died as a result of the fatal stabbing incident.
The case was assigned to Detective Derek Haines of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Haines identified 29-year-old Souleymane Fadiga as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. On November 22, Fadiga was taken into custody without incident in New York. On December 23, Fadiga was extradited to Delaware.
Fadiga has been charged with the following offenses:
- Manslaughter
- Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
