Narrative:

A month-long investigation resulted in arrests of two Los Angeles residents known for using girdle-style devices to commit their crimes.

In early December, detectives with the Ventura County Organized Retail Theft Task Force were contacted by Under Armour asset protection regarding a male and female crew who were responsible for numerous thefts from the Camarillo Outlets and Carlsbad stores.  Total loss to the stores was estimated to be about $4,500.  Detectives with the task force quickly identified the male suspect as Jose Mujica and began working on identifying the female suspect.

On 12/17/24, detectives with the Task Force observed Mujica and the female from the prior thefts, exiting the Under Armour store at the Camarillo Outlets.  Detectives contacted both Mujica and the female who was identified as Anyela Corredor-Casallas as they entered their vehicle.  Both Mujica and Corredor-Casallas were wearing girdles still stuffed with merchandise from another retail store located in the Camarillo Outlets.  A total of 17 pairs of jeans were concealed in the girdles worn by Mujica and Corredor-Casallas at the time of their arrest.  Additional merchandise from other retail stores as well as tools used to defeat security measures were also located in their possession and inside their vehicle.  Both were arrested on multiple felony theft-related charges and booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility.  Both were held on $100,000 bail.

On 12-19-24, both Mujica and Corredor-Casallas were arraigned in court on two felony charges of conspiracy to commit organized retail theft, one felony charge of burglary, one felony charge of grand theft and one misdemeanor charge of possession of burglary tools.  Corredor-Casallas was ordered to be released by the judge on her own recognizance.  Mujica’s bail amount was reduced to $20,000 and on 12-20-24, he posted bail and was released.  Both are due back in court on 12/31/24.

The Ventura County Organized Retail Theft Task Force was formed after the Sheriff’s Office was awarded grant funding under the California Retail Theft Prevention Grant Program.  This program formalizes a coordinated effort, overseen by the Sheriff’s Office, involving all law enforcement agencies in Ventura County to prevent and combat the estimated $10 million yearly loss from organized retail theft, vehicle/vehicle parts theft and cargo theft.
The task force is comprised of detectives from various agencies within Ventura County with the primary mission of combatting organized retail theft, vehicle/vehicle parts theft and cargo theft which impact our businesses, citizens, and communities here in Ventura County.  The task force aims to provide a safe environment for everyone while working hand in hand with retailers, law enforcement agencies and the public to identify, locate and arrest the criminals involved in these types of crimes.
