Residential Burglary Attempt - Normandie Place

On January 1st, 2025 at approximately 5:09 am, the Cranford Police Department responded to a Normandie Place home on the report of a possible attempted residential burglary in progress.  The resident was alerted to the presence of an individual in their rear yard by activated motion lights and the sound of a rear sliding door opening.  The resident then observed an individual walking from their rear yard after an unsuccessful attempt to gain entry into the locked residence.

Responding officers immediately observed a red mid-sized SUV occupied by 2 males fleeing the scene.  Responding officers briefly pursued the vehicle to the GSP interchange and the suspect vehicle was last seen heading Northbound on the Garden State Parkway. It should be noted that parked within the victim's driveway was a BMW.

As high-end vehicles remain targeted by thieves during these incidents, residents are encouraged to be vigilant in locking not only their vehicles but also ensuring that their homes are secured during overnight hours.  Please continue to remove keyfobs from your vehicles when they are parked.  Also, check that your security cameras are operational.

Car thieves enter and exit the Township quickly and have shown little regard for safety when fleeing.

Residents can contact this agency to report suspicious activity at 908-272-2222.

Should you have surveillance video capturing this incident, please contact Detective Lieutenant Spencer Durkin at 908-709-7346 or email your video to [email protected].
