K9 Grand Retirement
 
After years of loyal service and dedication, the Janesville Police Department is proud to announce the retirement of K9 Grand, a distinguished member of the department.  Over the course of his career, K9 Grand has demonstrated exceptional skill, bravery, and commitment to keeping our community safe.
 
K9 Grand joined the Janesville Police Department in November 2016 and quickly proved to be an invaluable asset to the team.  Throughout his service, K9 Grand has been involved in:  
       
Approximately 1,000 searches and sniffs for narcotics, evidence, missing/lost persons, and suspects who actively fled to avoid arrest.  
 
Hundreds of arrests resulting from his vehicle, article, and  school locker sniffs.
 
Several apprehensions of suspects during critical tracks.
 
Paired with handler, Officer Jason Bier, K9 Grand's teamwork and diligence have been instrumental in numerous successful operations.  The bond between the two exemplifies the partnership and trust necessary for such a demanding role.
 
K9 Grand has not only served the Janesville Police Department with unwavering dedication, but has also played a key role in making Janesville a safer place for everyone.
 
As K9 Grand transitions from active duty to a well-deserved retirement, he will live with Officer Bier and his family.  His days will now be filled with rest, play, and the love of his forever family.
 
The department has selected the next handler, and our newest K9 will be in service in the spring of 2025.  The Janesville Police Department's K9 unit is funded strictly by donation.  We thank our community for continued support.  Without your generous donations and commitment, the Janesville Police Department would not be able to provide our community with the benefits of a K9 unit.
