Crime Blotter for the Week of December 22, 2024 – December 28, 2024

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of December 22, 2024 – December 28, 2024.

December 22, 2024

  • No significant activity.

December 23, 2024
  • No significant activity.

December 24, 2024
  • Petty Theft (unlocked vehicle):
820 Miltonwood Avenue. Between 8 PM on December 23, 2024 and 10 AM on December 24, 2024, the suspect(s) unknown entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle, a gray 2018 Honda Civic, and stole his wallet, a football jersey, and other miscellaneous items that were left in plain view. No surveillance video is available. The loss was approximately $700.

December 27, 2024
  • Robbery (Estes):
2315 Huntington Drive (CVS). On December 27, 2024 at 8:12 PM, the suspects unknown, a female black adult wearing a black shirt, and black shorts and a male hispanic adult wearing a black shirt, black shorts, and a black hat and a second male hispanic wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans, entered the location, went directly to the cosmetics aisle, and concealed multiple items into a laundry basket. The suspects approached the exit without attempting to purchase the items, when a store employee attempted to prevent them from leaving. One of the male hispanics said he had a gun and reached under his shirt simulating as if he had a firearm under his shirt. The store employee, fearing for his life, let the suspects leave. The suspects all fled the location in an unknown direction on foot. Surveillance video is available. The loss was approximately $250.
 
  • Burglary (Residential):
1800 Block of Highland Avenue. On December 27, 2024 at 6:30 PM, the victim arrived home and upon entering his house he heard his dog barking. He heard a noise coming from his bathroom and immediately went to the bathroom, where he saw a male white adult wearing a black long sleeve shirt and blue jeans jumping out of the window. The victim stated he recognized the suspect as his brother-in-law, who had no permission to be in his house.  No surveillance video is available. No loss at the time of report.
 
  • Petty Theft (Shoplifting):
1050 Huntington Dr. (Target). On December 27, 2024 at 12:45 PM, the suspect, a male hispanic adult wearing a black and blue hoodie and blue jeans, was observed via surveillance cameras selecting a “Embark” tent. The suspect proceeded to exit the location without attempting to purchase and pay for the item. The suspect was detained after returning to the store shortly after. The loss was approximately $100. Video surveillance is available.
 
December 28, 2024
  • Petty Theft (Shoplifting):
2315 Huntington Drive “CVS”. On December 28, 2024 at 4:18 PM, the suspects unknown, a male hispanic adult and a female hispanic adult, entered the location and walked directly to the pharmacy area carrying a black bag. The suspects began to conceal multiple medication items in the bag. The suspects exited the location without attempting to purchase the items and fled the location in an unknown direction on foot. Surveillance video is available. The loss was approximately $600.  
 
  • Grand Theft Auto:
600 Block of Greenbank Avenue. Between 10 PM on December 27, 2024 and 10 PM on December 28, 2024, the suspect(s) unknown stole the victim’s parked vehicle, a black 2011 Audi AA4. Surveillance video is available. The suspect is in custody by the San Bernardino Sheriff Department.
 
DUARTE MUNICIPAL CODE
9.18.040 – Graffiti prohibited.
No person shall place or caused to be placed graffiti on any public or privately-owned property, building or structure, including natural and manmade objects, within the City.

9.18.070 – Parental and minor liability
Pursuant to California Civil Code Section 1714.1(b) and Government Code Section 38772, each parent or legal guardian having custody and control of a minor who places graffiti on any public or privately owned structure, building, or property, including natural and manmade objects within the City, shall be jointly and severally liable with such minor for any and all costs incurred in connection with the removal of any graffiti caused by the minor, including all abatement costs, attorneys’ fees, court costs, removal costs, costs of repair and/or replacement, and the law enforcement costs incurred by the City in identifying and apprehending the minor. The liability of each parent or guardian shall not exceed the amount set by the California Judicial Council in accordance with California Civil Code Section 1714.1(c). Such liability shall be a personal obligation of each parent or guardian and shall constitute a lien or special assessment on property owned by each parent or guardian pursuant to chapter 9.32 of this Code. The City is authorized to initiate legal action to enforce this section, or to recover these costs by any other means provided by law. The disposition of a criminal prosecution relating to placement of graffiti does not preclude the City from seeking full cost recovery as provided herein.
