Madison Street closure resumes Monday; Community meeting on 38 Jackson Street project announced

Madison Street closure between 10th and 11th to resume Monday

As part of the North Hudson Sewerage Authority’s (NHSA) Madison Street Infrastructure Improvements Project to mitigate rainfall flooding, the closure of Madison Street between 10th and 11th Streets will resume on Monday, Jan. 6. The closure, which was suspended for the holiday weeks, will remain in effect 24/7 for approximately three months. In addition, 10th Street will remain east bound between Madison and Jefferson Streets for the duration of this phase of the project.

Detour and variable messaging signs are in place and temporary no-parking signs are posted in restricted areas. Hoboken Police will be on site during the working hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to assist with detours and pedestrian safety.

The Madison Street Infrastructure Improvements Project is meant to alleviate frequent street flooding in the area of Madison Street between Ninth and 11th Streets, and includes replacing existing inlets, sewers, and water lines as well as elevating roadways, curbs, and sidewalks along Madison Street. Community meeting on 38 Jackson Street project announced

Residents are invited to a community meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. at Connors Elementary School, 201 Monroe St, to learn more about proposed changes to the 38 Jackson Street Redevelopment Agreement.

The developer team will present proposed changes to the ground floor use including new proposed school space and a grocery store as well as answer questions from the public.

The Southwest Hoboken Redevelopment Plan, initially adopted in May 2017, serves as the framework for this project. The redevelopment agreement between the City of Hoboken and 38 Jackson, LLC was executed in January 2022, with initial Planning Board approval granted in September 2022. An amended site plan approval was subsequently granted by the Planning Board in May 2023.

The project, which is currently under construction, is scheduled to be completed later this year.
