Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS). The incident occurred on January 4, 2025, just after 5:00 AM. An OPD sergeant observed an individual firing a rifle in the 6600 block of MacArthur Boulevard.
The sergeant engaged in a brief foot pursuit with the armed individual. During the foot pursuit the sergeant discharged their firearm. After the shooting, the individual was able to flee the area into a nearby residence and barricaded themselves inside. Additional officers responded to the scene to assist. After a lengthy standoff, the individual surrendered and was taken into custody.
Paramedic personnel responded to the scene to assist the individual and the sergeant. The individual was transported to an area hospital where they were listed in stable condition.
Officers also recovered a firearm at the scene.
In accordance with OPD policy, the sergeant involved in the incident has been placed on paid administrative leave.
Consistent with OPD policy, the OIS is being investigated by the Oakland Police Department, OPD Office of Internal Accountability and the Community Police Review Agency (CPRA).
