DETAILS: On January 3, 2025, at approximately 9:37pm, Officers were called to Soncy Rd and Legend Ave on a major traffic crash. When officers arrived, they learned one person had been killed and two others taken to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries. Officers determined a 2022 Ram 2500 driven by Carlos Coronado, male, age 29, had been southbound on Soncy Road in the inside lane for southbound traffic. Coronado swerved into northbound traffic to avoid rearending another vehicle and struck a 2019 Ford Escape driven by Clebson Roberto Hillario Da Silva, male, age 35. Mr. Da Silva died on scene as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. A female, age 34, and a 2 year old child, both passengers in the Escape, were transported to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries. Speed and alcohol/ drugs are factors in this crash. Randall County Justice of the peace Kyle Balke ordered an autopsy on Mr. Da Silva. Coronado was arrested and booked into the Randall County jail for Intoxication Manslaughter and 2 counts of Intoxication Assault. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
