SUSPECT(S): Walace Boyd, 65-year-old resident of Fontana

SUMMARY: On November 5, 2024, California voters passed Proposition 36 titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act.” The proposition took effect on December 18, 2024, and reforms multiple laws from Proposition 47, which have been responsible for increasing homelessness, drug addiction and theft. Proposition 36 includes several new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies will be able to apply during arrests when appropriate. These new charges can carry enhanced sentencing, as well as prevent offenders from being cite released prior to their court appearance. The following is an arrest where Proposition 36 is applied:
On Saturday, January 04, 2025, at approximately 9:48 p.m, Central Sheriff's Station Deputy E. Gonzalez was assigned to the San Manuel Casino. Gonzalez conducted a pedestrian check on a subject standing at the bus stop, located near the intersection of Lynwood Drive and San Manuel Boulevard. Boyd was found in possession of a plastic container containing suspected methamphetamine.
During a records check, Boyd was found to have mulitple convictions for drug related offenses. Boyd was arrested for Health and Safety code 11395(c) - Possession of a Hard Drug Treatment Mandated Felony, in accordance with Proposition 36.
Boyd was booked into the Central Detention Center Jail with a bail of $30,000.00.
