Women Arrested for Pettry Theft with Prior Convictions after Stealing Items from a Home Improvement Store

DATE/TIME: January 4, 2025, 5:15 p.m.

INCIDENT:  PC 666.1(a)(1) - Petty Theft with Two Prior Convictions

LOCATION: 11884 Foothill Blvd., Rancho Cucamonga CA, 91730 

SUSPECT(S): Claudia Renteria, Age 54, Resident of San Bernardino 
                        Sonia Ochoa Ramirez, Age 43, Resident of San Bernardino  

VICTIM(S): The Home Depot


SUMMARY: On November 5, 2024, California voters passed Proposition 36 titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act.” The proposition took effect on December 18, 2024, and reforms multiple laws from Proposition 47, which have been responsible for increasing homelessness, drug addiction and theft. Proposition 36 includes several new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies will be able to apply during arrests when appropriate. These new charges can carry enhanced sentencing, as well as prevent offenders from being cite released prior to their court appearance. The following is an arrest where Proposition 36 is applied:

On Saturday, January 4, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m., deputies responded to a theft that had just occurred at The Home Depot. Claudia Renteria and Sonia Ochoa walked into The Home Depot and loaded a shopping cart with several cans of lacquer along with several home improvement items. Renteria and Ochoa proceeded to exit the store wihtout paying for any of the items in the shopping cart.

Deputies located Renteria and Ochoa while in the parking lot of The Home Depot and detained them for shoplifting. Renteria and Ochoa had multiple prior convictions for theft and both were booked at the West Valley Detention Center for PC 666.1 - Petty Theft with Two Prior Convictions.
