The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the Orange County Inland and Mountain Zones effective Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 1 p.m. through Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. A second red flag warning has also been issued for the Coastal Zones (including Costa Mesa) effective Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 4 p.m. through Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 6 p.m.
The OC Coastal areas are expecting winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 35-60 mph. Strongest winds will occur overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
A combination of strong winds, lower relative humidity, warm temperatures, and dry fuels can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
💨 Damaging winds can blow down large objects such as trees and power lines.
Power outages are likely.
💨 Travel will be difficult, especially for drivers of high-profile vehicles.
💨 People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around large trees. If possible, remain indoors and avoid windows. Use extra caution if you must drive.
💨 As a reminder, clear away debris such as leaves and branches from around your home and trim trees to minimize flammable vegegation.
💨 Please report any downed trees to the Costa Mesa 311 app or our non-emergency line at 714-754-5252.
💨 For downed power lines, leave the area immediately and call 9-1-1, then call Southern California Edison at 1-800-611-1911. For more information visit sce.com.
