Recycling Contamination Announcement
The Department of Public Works would like to remind residents that plastic bags, such as single-use shopping bags and garbage bags, should not be included with your curbside recycling material. Residents and businesses should place all recycling directly into their cans and if there is overflow, it should be put into any other rigid, hard-bodied receptacle, such as a plastic bin or bucket. Plastic bags contaminate the recycling stream and Public Works employees have been instructed to leave any contaminated recycling at the curb.
Plastic bags and other stretchy plastics, like bread bags and newspaper sleeves, can cause mechanical issues at the sorting facility and can result in the whole collection being thrown away as waste. This also translates to higher costs to the Borough.
We thank you for your attention to this matter. For more information about our curbside recycling program, please visit: https://www.hpboro.com/
