The Helene Hotline is here to assist McDowell County residents with recovery resources
The Helene Hotline (828-652-3241) is available 24/7 to help the public navigate storm recovery resources. Staff can assist with applications for hazard mitigation grants, debris removal, and damage reporting. In-person support for these programs is also available at McDowell County Emergency Services Headquarters at 129 Barnes Rd. Marion, NC. Call the hotline for guidance and support as we work together to recover.

Need Help with Storm Debris Removal? We're Here to Assist!
If you need assistance with debris removal on private property, McDowell County is here to help. Citizens recovering from Hurricane Helene can apply for this free service by visiting www.mcdowellgov.com/helene and clicking on "Helene Storm Debris Removal" for more information. If you have questions or need help applying, please call the Helene Hotline at 828-652-3241. This program is designed to ease the burden on our community as we continue to rebuild together, ensuring everyone has access to the resources they need during recovery.

Protect Your Home from Future Flooding: Apply for Hazard Mitigation Grants
The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) is a valuable opportunity for McDowell County residents who experienced damage from the recent storm, especially those whose homes flooded. This program offers funding to help make homes more resilient against future disasters, including projects like elevating homes above the 100-year flood elevation to prevent repeat flooding. Participation is completely voluntary, and there is no cost to homeowners, as the program is fully funded by FEMA and the state. If your home flooded and you are interested in exploring ways to safeguard it from future events, we encourage you to consider applying for this program. Debris Removal Efforts Continue in McDowell County
As of January 8, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has reported the collection of 38,248.90 cubic yards of debris and 18,639.10 tons of soil as part of ongoing debris removal efforts in McDowell County. As this situation is constantly evolving, please check our storm debris management updates at https://www.mcdowellgov.com/debris  Additional passes for ROW debris pickup will continue, and residents are encouraged to place debris within 10 feet of the public right of way. Those needing debris removed from private property or private drives can apply for assistance at www.mcdowellgov.com/helene.
