WEST SPRINGFIELD FORMS AN ADVISORY GROUP TO EXAMINE STUDENT ENROLLMENT
West Springfield, MA: Following notification from the Massachusetts School Building Authority (“MSBA”) that West Springfield’s application to build a new elementary school is moving to the next phase of the process, Mayor William Reichelt, in conjunction with Town Council President Sean Powers and Superintendent Stefania Raschilla are pleased to announce the formation of an advisory group centered around overall census data in the District and future projections for school-specific enrollment. Tapped to lead the Enrollment Advisory Group as Chair will be Town Councilor Brian Griffin. The group will be emphasizing clear communication and robust community involvement, paving the way for a more accessible and supportive environment that fosters the belief in what is possible for the future.
At the heart of this initiative is the focus on enhancing transparency and providing families with the information they need to make informed decisions about their children’s education. With dedicated outreach and regular updates across multiple channels, the West Springfield Enrollment Advisory Group will work to create a seamless experience, where no question goes unanswered.
“We believe that every child has the potential to succeed, and it starts with clear communication,” commented Mayor William Reichelt. “By connecting the Town Council, School Committee, and interested community members, we can better understand the needs of all stakeholders and ensure that all groups feel supported every step of the way. This is about fostering an ongoing relationship between our team and the community."
Community involvement remains a cornerstone of the Town and the School Department’s approach. Through regular public meetings, parent and teacher forums, and local partnerships, the Enrollment Advisory Committee will be actively listening to families and advising the District as to how to meet the diverse needs of the community.
“We know that success in education is not just about classroom learning, but about creating a supportive network of people around our students,” added Chair Brian Griffin. “By focusing on what’s possible, we are inspiring a collective vision for a brighter future, one where all children are empowered to reach their fullest potential. This approach reflects a deep commitment to not just examining enrollment numbers, but to ensuring that each student feels welcomed, valued, and set up for success in their academic journey.”
The Advisory Group will include representatives from the Town Council and the school community, including administrators, educators, parents and other stakeholders to participate and ensure that all interested groups are represented. The group will be tasked with providing recommendations to the Mayor and Superintendent regarding future enrollment projections and options for maintaining the highest level of educational excellence for the West Springfield Public Schools.
