HBAlerts: Air Quality Alert
This message is being provided on behalf of the City of Hermosa Beach.
Attention Hermosa Beach Residents:
A public safety alert has been issued due to unhealthy air quality caused by smoke from Los Angeles County brush fires. Smoke and ash rising into the atmosphere may be visible over parts of Hermosa Beach, potentially creating unhealthy breathing conditions. As a result, outdoor recreation programming and facility reservations were rescheduled, canceled, or relocated to indoor spaces to protect participants and staff.
We encourage everyone to take precautions:
- Limit outdoor activity: Reduce or avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially for sensitive groups like children, the elderly, and those with heart or lung conditions.
- Stay indoors if possible: Close windows and doors to minimize smoke infiltration.
- Consider using air purifiers: If you have a respiratory condition, using an air purifier with a HEPA filter can help improve indoor air quality.
- Recirculate indoor air: Close windows and use air conditioners that recirculate indoor air.
Stay Informed:
- Monitor air quality conditions: Visit the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) website for real-time air quality readings and forecasts: https://www.aqmd.gov/home/air-quality/air-quality-forecasts
- Track fire information: Stay informed about the brush fires and their containment status through the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE): https://www.fire.ca.gov/
- Check outage status: Visit the Southern California Edison website to check outage status and report outages: https://www.sce.com/outage-center/check-outage-status
If you experience any respiratory problems, such as coughing, wheezing, or shortness of breath, consult with your healthcare provider.
The City of Hermosa Beach is committed to the health and safety of our residents. We will continue to monitor air quality conditions and provide updates as necessary.
Please share this information with your neighbors and loved ones.
Thank you for your cooperation.
