INCIDENT: Proposition 36 Arrest
LOCATION: 9300 Block of Buckthorn Avenue, Hesperia
SUSPECT(S): Christopher Hart, 44-years-old, Resident of Hesperia

SUMMARY: On November 5, 2024, California voters passed Proposition 36 titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act.” The proposition took effect on December 18, 2024, and reforms multiple laws from Proposition 47, which have been responsible for increasing homelessness, drug addiction and theft. Proposition 36 includes several new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies will be able to apply during arrests when appropriate. These new charges can carry enhanced sentencing, as well as prevent offenders from being cite released prior to their court appearance. The following are arrests made from December 18, 2024-January 8, 2025 in which Proposition 36 was applied:
On December 20, 2024, at approximately 1:45 PM, deputies from the Big Bear Station executed a search warrant at the residence of Christopher Hart.. Deputies found illegal narcotics, scales used for drug sales, seven firearms, two bullet proof vests, several rounds of ammunition, and a trailer that was reported as stolen.
Deputies arrested Hart on seven felony charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, felon in possession of body armor, and child abuse with the possibility of great bodily harm. Hart was arrested and booked into custody at the High Desert Detention Center.
