DETAILS: On Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 2:36 a.m., Amarillo Police officers responded to a residence in the 5200 block of S. Travis Street following a 911 hang-up call.
Upon arrival, officers were granted entry by the homeowner and informed that another resident was probably the one who called 911. Officers attempted to talk with the individual. During this attempt, the resident began shooting at officers and exited his room holding a loaded handgun.
In response, officers returned fire, striking the male resident. Officers immediately initiated life-saving measures while awaiting the arrival of AMR. The individual was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
No other individuals were injured during the incident. The Amarillo Police Department’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
