Eaton Fire Update – January 9, 2025

The coordinated efforts of firefighting teams and air resources have made significant progress on the Eaton Fire. However, hazardous conditions remain due to wind, low humidity, and available fuel.

Evacuation Information:

  • Evacuation Warning Areas: DUA-001, DUA-002, DUA-005, and DUA-008 remain under Evacuation Warnings.
  • Duarte Specific Warning: The area above Royal Oaks, between Mt. Olive and Tocino, is still under an Evacuation Warning. Residents are strongly encouraged to remain prepared to evacuate if conditions worsen.
  • Mandatory Evacuations: There are no mandatory evacuations for Duarte at this time.
  • Know Your Zone: To identify your evacuation zone, visit protect.genasys.com.

Current Fire Status:

  • Fireline Location: Just above Arcadia Wilderness Park, touching the western border of Monrovia.
  • Air Attack Progress: Air operations have significantly slowed the forward progression of the fire.
  • Eastern Fireline Update: The fireline has reached the 2020 Bobcat Burn Scar, where newer growth may aid firefighting efforts. However, fuel remains, and danger to Duarte persists.

Threat Level to Duarte:

  • Moderate, with improving conditions.

Electricity:

  • Power has been restored to over 60% of the city. However, very little power is present in areas north of Royal Oaks.
  • Due to dangerous conditions, Southern California Edison (SCE) restoration efforts will take longer than usual. Outages may extend through the weekend. Visit SCE’s Outage Map for updates.

Water Quality:

  • Duarte’s water supply remains safe and unaffected.

Weather Conditions:

  • Wind Forecast: Sustained winds of 15-30 mph through Friday evening, January 10, with gusts of 30-40 mph Thursday night into Friday.
  • Humidity: Levels of 10-20%, with some areas as low as 5% through Friday.
  • Red Flag Warning: In effect until 6 PM on Friday, January 10 for Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
