Wilmington Police arrest Maryland man in connection to January 2024 fatal shooting incident:
Wilmington Police have arrested a Maryland man in connection to a January 2024 fatal shooting incident following an investigation.
On January 22, 2024, members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 300 block of North Scott Street in reference to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, police located a gunshot victim – 23-year-old Makhi Swanson – who was transported to the hospital in critical condition, and later succumbed to his injuries.
The case was assigned to Detective Brandon Mosley of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Mosley identified 20-year-old Naim Hassan-El of Snow Hill, Maryland as a suspect. On January 29, 2024, the case was presented to the New Castle County Grand Jury and an indictment was returned for Hassan-El. On October 30, 2024, Hassan-El was taken into custody in Worchester County, Maryland. On December 31, 2024, Hassan-El was extradited to Delaware.
Hassan-El has been charged with the following offenses:
- Murder (First Degree)
- Attempted Murder (First Degree)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony – Three Counts
- Reckless Endangering (First Degree)
