Rancho Man Arrested After Deputies Find Him in Possession of Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia


DATE/TIME: January 9, 2025 / 12:42 P.M.

INCIDENT: H&s 11395(b)- Treatment-Mandated Felony Act 

LOCATION: Arrow Route/Hermosa Avenue, Rancho Cucamonga

SUSPECT(S): Shawn Oldham, Age 44, Resident of Rancho Cucamonga


SUMMARY:
On November 5, 2024, California voters passed Proposition 36 titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act.” The proposition took effect on December 18, 2024, and reforms multiple laws from Proposition 47, which have been responsible for increasing homelessness, drug addiction and theft. Proposition 36 includes several new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies will be able to apply during arrests when appropriate. These new charges can carry enhanced sentencing, as well as prevent offenders from being cite released prior to their court appearance. The following is an arrest where Proposition 36 is applied:

On Thursday, January 9, 2025, at approximately 12:42 P.M., Rancho Cucamonga deputies were proactively patrolling throughout the city when they conducted a pedestrian check on Shawn Oldham. During a search, deputies found him in possession  of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Oldham had several prior convictions for possession of methamphetamine, under the influence of methamphetamine and for possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Oldham was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for H&S 11395, Possession of Narcotics with Two Prior Convictions and H&S 11364, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
