The conditions regarding the Eaton Fire as it relates to Duarte have improved significantly, with the threat level to Duarte now at Very Low and containment rising to 15%.
The city remains vigilant, and a decision on lifting the evacuation warning is expected by 3 PM today.

- The area above Royal Oaks, between Mt. Olive and Tocino, remains under an evacuation warning.
- A decision on lifting the evacuation warning is expected by 3 PM today.

- Acres Burned: ≈14,117
- Containment: 15%
- Verified Structures Destroyed: 972
- Verified Structures Damaged: 98
- Civilian Fatalities: 5
- Firefighter Injuries: 5
- Cause: Undetermined
Current Fire Situation:
- The fire remains active, burning in steep, inaccessible terrain with critically dry vegetation.
- Key updates:
- Minimal growth was observed overnight.
- Firefighters continue to construct and improve fire lines around communities.
- Crews addressed public service calls while making significant progress on the southeastern portion closest to Duarte, raising containment to 15%.
- This progress is a positive sign for Duarte residents.
Weather Conditions:
- Gusty northeast winds will return to high elevations tonight into Sunday, with gusts up to 30 mph.
- Relative humidity will drop below 20%.
- Another Santa Ana wind event is expected Tuesday, which could bring stronger winds.
Electricity:
- Restoration Progress: 97% of Duarte has power restored.
- Temporary generators are powering some areas while crews finalize infrastructure repairs.
Duarte Unified School District:
- All schools now have power and are scheduled to reopen on Monday, January 13, 2025.
City Services and Support:
- Trash Service and Street Sweeping: Both services have resumed. There is no enforcement for street sweeping violations.
- Evacuation Site: The Community Center Evacuation Site has been closed.
- 40-Yard Trash Bins: Located at the City Hall on Pops Road and Huntington Drive. Residents are encouraged to dispose of debris directly at the bins. Bins will remain into next weekend.
