High Wind Warning until 03:00PM Sunday
* WHAT...For the Anchorage Hillside and higher elevations of the Front Range Chugach, Southeast winds 50 to 70 mph with gusts of 85 to 100 mph possible. For the lower Hillside and lower elevations near the mountains, including East Anchorage and Eagle River, Southeast winds 30 to 45 mph with gusts of 60 to 80 mph possible.
* WHERE...Anchorage, mainly along and near the mountains.
* WHEN...From late tonight through Sunday afternoon.
* IMPACTS...High winds could move loose debris, damage property, and cause power outages. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong storm system will move into Southcentral tonight, with easterly winds rapidly strengthening overnight and peaking late tonight through early Sunday morning. Conditions across the Mat Valley are looking less favorable for high winds, though gusts up to 75 mph are not out of the question. Gusts are more likely to remain at or below 65 mph. As such, a High Wind Warning issuance is not anticipated at this time and a Watch will continue instead.
* AFFECTED AREAS: ANCHORAGE
Instructions:
People are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind. Prepare for the possibility of widespread power outages. Use caution if you must drive.
