INCIDENT: Cultivation and Sales of Psilocybin Mushrooms

SUMMARY: On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, deputies from the Morongo Basin Station responded to the 2500 block of Desert Shadow Road in the county area of Joshua Tree after a 14-year-old male victim ingested psilocybin mushrooms. The victim was evaluated by medical personnel and transported to a local hospital.
Through investigation, deputies discovered the father, Jarek Hawksley, and his girlfriend, Rachel Kolb, had an indoor psilocybin mushroom cultivation operation. Deputies contacted the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Marijuana Enforcement Team to respond to the scene and assist with a search warrant. During a search warrant, deputies located multiple firearms, over 1000 rounds of ammunition, ecstasy pills, marijuana plants, approximately 80 pounds of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, a scale, and different denominations of currency.
Hawksley was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail, and Kolb was booked at West Valley Detention Center for sales of a controlled substance, cultivation of mushroom spores, and sales and transportation of mushrooms under penal code HS 11378, HS 11390, and HS 11391.
