Eaton Fire Update: Some SCE grids are still off & some Gas Co. customers are without gas. Executive Orders 1 & 2 issued
Southern California Edison (SCE) has informed us that they have deployed over 40 units to our area. SCE crews and their subcontractors are working diligently to inspect and assess every component of the electrical grid to ensure it is safe to re-energize. This process takes time because they must verify that there is no damage to critical infrastructure that could lead to hazards, such as fires. Unfortunately, SCE has not provided an estimated timeline for full restoration.
In addition to the power outages, the Gas Company has informed us that gas service has been turned off in some areas. At this time we are only being told that the shutoffs will affect 16,000 Gas Co. customers in the Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre areas. City staff is actively working to obtain additional information to identify which residents have been impacted and how long the outage might last. We will share this information with you as soon as we have it.
To assist residents during this challenging time, the City is in discussions with Athens Services to establish a centralized organic waste collection site. This will provide a safe and convenient location for residents to dispose of spoiled food. Managing spoiled food properly is essential to prevent attracting wildlife to our neighborhoods, which is a concern given the current situation.
We recognize how difficult and frustrating the the service interruptions may be for everyone, and we thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate these challenges.
