Public Safety Reminder: Navigating Intersections with Inoperable or Flashing Red Traffic Signals
Drivers, when approaching an intersection with inoperable traffic signals or flashing red lights, please follow these safety rules. A flashing red light must be treated like a stop sign: stop at the marked limit line, or if none, before entering the crosswalk or the point nearest the intersection where you can see oncoming traffic. After stopping, proceed only when it is safe, yielding to others as required.
Similarly, at intersections with inoperative signals, come to a complete stop and yield the right-of-way to the vehicle or pedestrian that arrived first. If two or more vehicles arrive simultaneously, yield to the driver on your right. Always proceed cautiously and remain alert for drivers who may not follow these rules. Your patience and adherence to these rules help ensure everyone’s safety on the road.
The Simi Valley Police Department is aware of the inoperable traffic signals and is actively addressing the situation. Members of the Traffic Bureau are conducting increased enforcement in these areas to ensure drivers adhere to traffic laws and to enhance public safety.
Let's work together to prevent accidents and protect lives! Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
