Moreno Valley Man Arrested after Theft of Generator; Deputies Asking Additional Victims to Contact Law Enforcement

SUMMARY: On January 11, 2025, at approximately 7:11 a.m., a generator was stolen from a the exterior of a residence located in the 3300 block of Rosena Ranch Rd., in San Bernardino. The victim was using the generator to supply power to their residence as the entire community of Rosena Ranch had been without power for several days due to a severe wind storm. During the theft, the suspect damaged the victim's water line causing over $800 in damage. The suspect was observed entering a blue GMC Yukon before fleeing.
On January 13, 2025, detectives with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Fontana Station initiated a follow-up investigation and identified the suspect vehicle. On January 13, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the suspect vehicle was located by deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Moreno Valley Station. The suspect vehicle was stopped, and the driver, who was identified as Nathan Hohnstein, was taken into custody pursuant to an outstanding felony arrest warrant for parole violation. Fontana Sheriff's detectives responded and recovered evidence identifying Hohnstein as the suspect who stole the generator. Investigators also learned Hohnstein was out of custody on an "Own Recognizance" release for mulitiple felony charges from Riverside County when this incident occurred.
Hohnstein was transported to the West Valley Detention Center where he was booked for several felony charges and a bail enhancement was obtained to hold Honstein in-custody without bail. Fontana Sheriff's detectives are releasing photos of Hohnstein and the suspect vehicle as there may be additional victims.
