UPDATE (01/15/25, 3:23 PM):
Shortly after this Nixle message was posted, a local group purchased the space heaters that are currently needed. We are proud to announce that we are now working on receiving these heaters and delivering them appropriately. We are asking our community to hold off on purchasing more heaters for now. We will keep you informed if the need for more heaters is needed.
Thank you Sonora

PREVIOUSE MESSAGE:
During the last winter freeze, the staff at the Sonora Senior Center conducted a survey to assess the heating needs of our local homebound clients. The results revealed that at least 12 homes, primarily housing elderly individuals, lacked sufficient heating sources to stay warm during cold weather.
To address this urgent need, we are calling on the Sonora community to assist by donating new portable space heaters to the Sonora Senior Center. These heaters will be distributed to those in need to ensure their safety and comfort during the winter months.
When purchasing a heater, please follow these recommendations to ensure safety and quality:
• Choose a heater with a seal from an independent testing laboratory.
• Look for heaters with a thermostat or overheat protection.
• Ensure the heater has an automatic shut-off feature to turn off if it tips over.
Attached to this notice is a list of safety tips for using portable electric space heaters to help prevent fires and ensure safe operation.
How to Donate:
• Drop off new heaters at the Sonora Senior Center, located at 102 South Wilson Street, Sonora, TX.
• For questions or additional information, call the Sonora Senior Center at 325-387-5657 or Sonora City Hall at 325-387-2558.
Thank you for your generosity and support in helping us keep our neighbors warm and safe this winter. Together, we can make a difference for those in need.
Let’s work together to protect and care for our community!
