The Camarillo Police Department Community Resources Unit is happy to announce registration is now open for the spring Camarillo Citizen Academy. The Citizen Academy is a twelve-week program where attendees will get a firsthand view of the innerworkings of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. The goal of the program is to educate the public on the day-to-day operations of the Camarillo Police Department. Attendees will meet subject matter experts in the fields of patrol, investigations, unmanned aerial systems, aviation, homeless services, narcotics, emergency management and more. Attendees will be given a tour of a jail facility, the Sheriff’s Regional Training Center, and our Sheriff’s Communication Center. Participants will also have an opportunity to ride-along with a deputy on patrol! The Camarillo Police Department is very thankful for the community support we receive. The Citizen Academy is a great way for us to show the public how we perform our duties. Camarillo Citizen Academy #44 is scheduled to start February 11, 2025, and the classes will be every Tuesday night from 6 pm to 9 pm for twelve weeks. Minimum requirements: must be 18 years of age, must live or work in the Camarillo area, must not have been convicted of a felony, must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor within the past 12 months, consent to a background check prior to the start of the first class.
