On January 15, 2025, at 1:53 a.m., a San Mateo police officer was patrolling and noticed a vehicle with an expired registration sticker was stopped in the middle of the street on S. El Camino Real near 3rd Avenue. The officer made a traffic enforcement stop and the vehicle pulled over to the side of the road. The driver of the vehicle, Daniel Caballero, was contacted by the officer as he exited his vehicle and started walking away. During the contact, officers located a methamphetamine pipe and a small baggie of suspected methamphetamine.

A records check of Caballero showed he had two or more previous convictions for possession of a controlled substance. Due to recently passed laws, Proposition 36, Caballero was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

We need the community’s support in reporting crimes and being a good witness. If you witness a crime, contact police immediately. Try to remain as calm as possible and do your best to answer questions on the phone. Remember details like the suspect’s appearance, clothing, any distinguishing features, and which direction they flee. Once police arrive at the scene, cooperate fully, and provide the officers with all the information you have. Your observations can greatly assist law enforcement in their investigation.
