Narrative:

The Ventura County Fentanyl and Overdose Crimes Units (VC FOCUS) concluded an investigation with the arrest of Trevor Williams who was responsible for selling various controlled substances to Ventura County residents in addition to mailing various controlled substances to customers throughout the United States.

The investigation initially began in August 2024 when a male victim suffered a fatal overdose in Newbury Park. VC FOCUS began an investigation into the overdose and determined the victim had purchased pharmaceutical narcotics from Williams in the past.  However, those narcotic purchases were not determined to be specifically related to the victim’s fatal overdose.

Detectives found Williams was advertising various controlled substances utilizing numerous social media accounts and that his customers were not limited to Ventura County but also lived all over the United States. Detectives contacted Williams on social media and set up undercover purchases of these controlled substances which were intercepted by investigators from the United States Postal Inspection Service. Detectives conducted additional covert surveillance of Williams and determined he also had a network of customers within Ventura County who he was delivering to daily.

On December 19, 2024, detectives arrested Williams for a variety of felony drug charges including Possession for Sales of Controlled Substances, and Sales of Controlled Substances. He was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility and arraigned on his charges on December 23, 2024. Williams was held to answer on the charges and remains in custody with bail set at $100,000.

Social media has become an increasingly popular method for drug dealers to advertise the sale of narcotics. They use these sites to operate discreetly, increase the number of people they can reach, and allow them to develop a customer base outside of the geographic region they reside. Ventura County law enforcement agencies would like to remind the community that this is not a legitimate way to obtain prescribed medications as these illicit pills being sold are likely to be counterfeit and often contain fentanyl and/or other dangerous substances. All prescribed medications should only be obtained through licensed medical professionals and pharmacies.

VC FOCUS is a task force made up of Ventura County regional law enforcement agencies, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, the California Highway Patrol, and federal law enforcement partners. The primary mission of this partnership is to combat fentanyl related crimes and opioid overdoses by targeting the supply chain of individuals and criminal organizations responsible for the sales of these drugs into Ventura County. In addition, the task force works to identify new trends of abuse among the younger population and educate the community at large on the lethal danger of this epidemic.

VC FOCUS has partnered with Ventura County Behavioral Health as an active member of the County Overdose Awareness & Solutions Team (COAST) in a campaign to reduce overdoses and educate the public about the dangers of opioids and other drugs. Comprehensive information can be found at www.ThinkAgainVC.com

The public may contact investigators from the VC FOCUS at (805) 383-8700 or [email protected] with additional information about this case, or any other information related to narcotics.
