Berkeley Police make second arrest in October shooting investigation
On Wednesday morning, Berkeley Police Department homicide detectives, in collaboration with Union City Police Department, successfully executed two search warrants and one arrest warrant in connection with an October 2024 shooting incident. This operation led to the arrest of a 31-year-old Union City man, who is being booked on charges including assault with a firearm (PC 245(A)(2)), negligent discharge of a firearm (PC 246.3(a)), shooting at an inhabited dwelling (PC 246), and additional weapons-related offenses. This marks the second arrest in this ongoing investigation.
The shooting occurred on October 24, 2024, near the intersection of Berkeley Way and Henry Street, where surveillance footage captured an incident that resulted in one person being injured. The incident prompted multiple calls to law enforcement reporting gunshots in the area.
This latest development follows the first arrest made on November 21, 2024, when Berkeley Police Department's Special Response Team apprehended a 34-year-old male suspect at an Oakland residence. The first suspect was arrested on multiple charges, including assault with a firearm (PC 245(A)(2)), negligent discharge of a firearm (PC 246.3(a)), shooting at an inhabited dwelling (PC 246), and additional weapons-related offenses.
The Berkeley Police Department extends its gratitude to the Union City Police Department for their assistance in today's operation, and to the U.S. Marshals Service and Oakland Police Department for their support in the November arrest.
"Our detectives work tirelessly to investigate violent crimes and hold those responsible accountable for their actions. This case exemplifies the dedication of our officers and the importance of collaboration with our law enforcement partners in creating a safer community,” said Detective Lieutenant Rittenhouse.
The Berkeley Police Department remains steadfast in its mission to protect and serve our community through proactive policing, thorough investigations, and strategic partnerships. This successful operation reflects our ongoing efforts to address gun violence and maintain the safety and security of Berkeley neighborhoods.
