Man Arrested in Hesperia for Possession of Drugs and Bringing Drugs into a Jail Facility

INCIDENT: Transporting a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Two or More Prior Convictions, Possesion of a Lead Cane, Bringing Drugs into a Jail, Possesion of Paraphernalia, Parole Violation
LOCATION: Main Street/ Ninth Avenue, Hesperia
SUSPECT(S): Jose Quintero, 41-year-old, resident of Apple Valley
SUMMARY:
On November 5, 2024, California voters passed Proposition 36 titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act.” The proposition took effect on December 18, 2024, and reforms multiple laws from Proposition 47, which have been responsible for increasing homelessness, drug addiction and theft. Proposition 36 includes several new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies will be able to apply during arrests when appropriate. These new charges can carry enhanced sentencing, as well as prevent offenders from being cite released prior to their court appearance. The following is an arrest where Proposition 36 is applied:
On January 14, 2025, at approximately 11:07 a.m., deputies with the Hesperia Police Department and California State Parole officers contacted Jose Quintero, 41-year-old resident of Apple Valley, who is on parole for felon in possession of a firearm. Quintero was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a lead cane and had drug paraphernalia in his vehicle. Quintero was arrested and transported to the High Desert Detention Center. During the intake process at the jail facility, Quintero was found to be in possession of a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine on his person.
Quintero was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for HS11379(a)- Transporting a Controlled Substance, HS11395(b)(1) – Possession of a Controlled Substance with Two or More Prior Convictions, PC22210- Possession of a Lead Cane, PC4573.5-Bringing Drugs into a Jail, HS11364(a)- Possession of Parapherneila and Violation of Parole.
