EC Health Department Notice: There is an increase in Quad-Demic: Flu, COVID, RSV and Norovirus.
As of January 13, 2025 the CDC released a statement regarding the Respiratory Viruses circulating throughout the United States causing people to seek healthcare at high levels.
Nationally, emergency department visits are high among all age groups with the elderly being hospitalized.
The City of East Chicago Health Department has now seen an increase in Quad-Demic: Flu, COVID, RSV and Norovirus. This is also reflected nationwide.
This increase is possibly attributed to increased gathering during the holidays and low vaccination rates.
We are urging in order to take extra precaution to prevent illness; mask-up in crowded environments; hand hygiene, social distancing
If you are sick, stay home and away from others to reduce the spread of illness. It is also recommended to be tested.
If you are experiencing the following:
- Fever
- Chills
- Fatigue
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Headache
The Health Department will be testing for Flu, COVID, and RSV by appointment. If you have questions, please feel free to call the nursing department at (219) 391-2185.
Thank you for keeping our City well.
