Advisory

Dangerously Cold Weather from Sunday Night through Wednesday Night

Good morning, this is a message from the Sea Isle City’s Office of Emergency Management.

The National Weather Service is predicting dangerously cold weather starting Sunday night (Jan 19) and continuing through Wednesday night (Jan 22).  Minimum Wind Chills are expected to be below 0°. Impacts to people, animals, and infrastructure are possible, including increased risk of hypothermia & frost bite, and the potential for frozen pipes.

If your home’s water lines have not been properly winterized, at a minimum, your heat should be turned on.  For any interior water lines that are on an outside wall, for example a sink or tub, allow the water to trickle.  If you have not done so already, shut off the water to any outside showers or hose spigots.  Also, it may be a good idea to check on your house or have a neighbor do so for you, prior to the start of the incoming cold weather.

As the owner of a home in Sea Isle City, you are responsible for the water line from the outlet on the meter box to the house.  Shutting off the main valve in your garage or crawl space may still lead to the line freezing from the valve, back to the meter box.  The Water Department normally does not turn on and off water to your house.  A private plumber would need to be contacted prior to the Water Department.  Please contact the Water Department at 609-263-6000 for a Hold Harmless form for major issues that may arise.

Thank you, stay safe and stay warm.
