Snow expected in Hoboken tomorrow; NWS winter weather advisory issued; Discounted garage parking available

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for the Hoboken area from 1 p.m. tomorrow (Sunday) through 4 a.m. Monday. The City of Hoboken and Office of Emergency Management (OEM) are monitoring the forecast, which currently calls for accumulating snow of three to five inches, with locally higher amounts of up to six inches, mixing with rain at times. Residents are encouraged to exercise caution when driving.

Following the snow fall, temperatures are anticipated to drop significantly, with wind chill values possibly below 10 degrees in the overnight hours of Sunday into Monday.

Keep Sidewalks and Curb Ramps Clear

The City’s Department of Parks, Recreation, & Public Works will salt roads and City and County plowing crews will remain on standby for plowing and shoveling operations as needed. Owners and occupants are reminded that they have six (6) hours after the completion of a storm to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property, along with adjoining curb ramps or curb cuts.

Residents are urged to use caution when shoveling and assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing snow from their properties. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto streets or onto fire hydrants.

The City performs proactive inspections and relies on citizen complaints to help identify property owners that are not meeting sidewalk safety requirements. While most property owners comply with the safety regulations, the City will issue fines to those who do not keep sidewalks clear.

To report an un-shoveled sidewalk, please email sanitationinspectors@hobokennj.govsanitationinspectors@hobokennj.gov

Street cleaning previously suspended Monday; Waste collection scheduled as normal

Street cleaning had previously been suspended for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 20 and will resume Tuesday, Jan. 21. All other parking regulations will remain in effect.

Waste collection and recycling will occur as scheduled.

Discounted Garage Parking Available

Due to the forecasted snowfall, a special rate of $5 per 24-hour period is being offered at Garages B (28 2nd St.), Garages D (215 Hudson St.), and the Midtown Garage (371 4th St.) for residents with Resident On-Street Parking Permits or Temporary Parking Permits. Discounted parking begins Sunday, Jan. 19, at 12 p.m. and ends Monday, Jan. 20, at 12 p.m.

Please note, garages tend to fill quickly as space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Regular rates apply at all other times.

Snow Emergency Route reminder

Residents are reminded that vehicles parked on snow emergency routes, when the streets are snow covered, may be subject to ticketing and towing. This is necessary to allow emergency vehicles to move throughout Hoboken for the safety and welfare of all residents.

Emergency snow routes in Hoboken are labeled with street signs that read “No Parking When Road Is Snow Covered.” A map of emergency snow routes is available on the City website: www.hobokennj.gov/snow.

The Office of Emergency Management will announce if, and when, emergency snow routes are in effect via Nixle and on X at: @HobokenOEM.
