Traffic Alert: Events across Beaufort County in honor of MLK Day to cause travel delays

On Monday, January 20, 2025, events will occur across Beaufort County in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Area parades and/or marches will prompt travel delays and road closures.
 
On Hilton Head Island, the Hilton Head MLK Committee for Justice will hold its annual memorial march in honor of the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.

  • The march will begin promptly at 10 a.m. on Wilborn Road where it will proceed left onto westbound William Hilton Parkway
  • From westbound William Hilton Parkway the march will continue left onto Museum Street
  • From Museum Street the march will continue left onto Main Street
  • From Main Street the march will continue right onto Wilborn Road
  • The march will end on Wilborn Road near the schools
  • During the march, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office will temporarily close portions of Wilborn Road, westbound William Hilton Parkway, Museum Street, and Main Street for the safety of participants and spectators.
 
In Beaufort, the city hosts its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade.
  • The parade will start at 10 a.m., with participants beginning to line up at 9 a.m.
  • Roads impacted from 9:30 a.m. to Noon include:
    • Boundary Street will be closed to vehicular traffic from Adventure Street to Carteret Street.
    • Carteret Street will be closed from Boundary Street to Bay Street.
    • Bay Street will be closed from Carteret Street to Bladen Street.
    • Bladen Street will be closed from Bay Street to Boundary Street.
    • The Woods Memorial Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic during the parade.
In Bluffton, the Bluffton MLK Observance Committee will host a march from the May River Theater on Pritchard Street starting at 2 p.m. The march route includes Old Town Bluffton and ends at Oyster Factory Park.
 
During all mentioned events, as well as others that may take place on Monday, we encourage Beaufort County residents and visitors to use extra caution when traveling. Please seek alternate routes in areas impacted by road closures.
