Gloucester Township Police Media Release- Sunday Morning House Fire Displaces Family

On January 19th, 2025 at approximately 11:37am, Gloucester Township Police Officers were dispatched to a residence on Lee Ann Drive in the Somerdale section of Gloucester Township in response to an active house fire. Arriving units observed smoke and flames coming from the second floor of the home and verified all residents were safely evacuated.

Fire Departments from Gloucester Township Squad 88, Chews Landing, Blackwood, Erial, Runnemede, Magnolia, Voorhees, Hi-Nella, Bellmawr, and Stratford responded and successfully brought the fire under control. Assistance was provided by Inspira EMS and the Gloucester Twp Office of Emergency Management.

No injuries were reported however a family pet, a cat, unfortunately perished in the blaze. A family of seven was displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Although the fire does not appear suspicious, it is currently under investigation by the Fire Marshal from the Chews Landing Fire Department.

This incident serves as a reminder to check your fire suppression systems, including alerts and audible alarm systems, to ensure they are operational. Smoke alarms are a key component of any fire escape plan. When there is smoke, there is fire, which can spread quickly. Working smoke alarms provide early warnings, allowing you to evacuate promptly.
