Advisory

Discounted garage parking ends at noon; Clear property of snow and ice; Prepare for extreme cold

Discounted garage parking ending at noon today

The City’s discounted parking rates will end at 12 p.m. today. Residents are reminded to move their cars from participating garages by 12 p.m. Regular rates will go into effect after that time.

Keep sidewalks and curb ramps clear of snow and ice

While the City’s Department of Parks, Recreation, & Public Works will continue to clear snow and ice from City property, property owners and occupants are reminded that they have six (6) hours after the completion of a storm to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property, along with adjoining curb ramps or curb cuts.

Residents are urged to use caution when shoveling and assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing snow and ice from their properties. It is illegal to shovel snow back onto streets or onto fire hydrants.

The City performs proactive inspections and relies on citizen complaints to help identify property owners that are not meeting sidewalk safety requirements. While most property owners comply with the safety regulations, the City will issue fines to those who do not keep sidewalks clear.  To report an un-shoveled sidewalk, please email sanitationinspectors@hobokennj.govsanitationinspectors@hobokennj.gov

Street cleaning previously suspended Monday; Waste collection scheduled as normal

Residents are reminded street cleaning had previously been suspended today, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Street cleaning is scheduled to resume tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 21. All other parking regulations remain in effect.

Waste collection and recycling will occur as scheduled.

Prepare for cold temperatures

Hoboken is forecasted to experience potentially dangerous temperatures below freezing over the next several days. The Hoboken Health Division encourages residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe and warm including wearing layers when outside. Learn more about staying safe and healthy in the extreme cold here: https://www.hobokennj.gov/news/hoboken-public-safety-department-offers-winter-safety-tips-to-residents

Hoboken property owners are required to provide adequate heat from Oct. 1 through May 1. As per Hoboken municipal code, property owners must provide heating facilities which are properly installed, maintained in good and safe working conditions, and are capable of safely and adequately heating all habitable rooms and bathrooms to a temperature of at least 70-degrees. Tenants experiencing insufficient heat, or other heat related issues, should contact their landlord first. If the issue is not resolved, residents should contact the Hoboken Health Department at 201-420-2375 or schedule an appointment with the City’s tenant advocate at https://sobelhancannonllp.simplybook.me/v2/.
