Jekyll Island is currently under a winter storm warning from the National Weather Service.
 
CLOSURES
All Jekyll Island Authority offices, amenities, gift shops, and facilities will be closed on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

The Jekyll Island Guest Information Center will be under reduced operations for gate service only. The Jekyll Island Campground will operate under limited staffing as well.
 
Normal operations are expected to resume for all JIA offices, amenities, and facilities on Thursday, January 23, 2025, unless otherwise communicated.

There are no Jekyll Island road/causeway closures planned at this time. Conditions are continuing to be monitored and additional updates will be communicated as needed. Georgia DOT is also monitoring the Sidney Lanier Bridge and has no plans to close the bridge unless driving conditions are deemed unsafe. Please contact 511 or follow GDOT on Facebook for updates on the status of the bridge overnight.

Prepare for Cold Weather Impacts
Residents should make preparations now for potential brief power outages and be prepared for nightly freezes and dangerous wind chills through the coming weekend.

Preparations should include stocking food, water, and winter clothing and preparing vehicles and homes for cold weather. Ensure outdoor pets have proper preparations.

Allow faucets to drip to avoid freezing/broken pipes. Open cabinet doors to allow heat to get to uninsulated pipes. Should you lose power, use flashlights instead of candles to prevent the risk of fire. Never use an oven to heat your home.

Consider your potential heating alternatives should you lose power.

Road conditions could become unsafe due to icy roads and damage to trees from wind. Do not drive unless necessary.
