Newark Police Department Crime Blotter: Monday January 13 - Sunday January 19, 2025

The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, JANUARY 13, 2025:
 
7:10 AM Officer Lomeli responded to a report of a burglary in progress near Jarvis Ave & Cedar Blvd. A 44-year-old male was identified and arrested for vandalism. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
1:48 PM Community Service Officer (CSO) Lau responded to the area of Thornton & Peachtree Avenues for a reported vandalism. A vehicle window was observed smashed in with no loss was reported.
 
7:40 PM Officer Norvell responded to a building alarm on the 7000 block of Mowry Ave and located a 41-year-old male with outstanding warrants. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
TUESDAY, JANUARY 14, 2025:
 
1:54 AM Officer Norvell investigated a vehicle theft on Newpark Mall Road. The vehicle was later located by a neighboring agency.
 
2:33 PM Officer Dale recovered a stolen vehicle near Balentine Rd & Stevenson Blvd.
 
3:34 PM Officer Dale investigated a report of mail theft on Jarvis Ave & Haley St. A package and several articles of male were reported taken from a mailbox.
 
8:29 PM Officer Orozco investigated the theft of a license plate sticker that was reported on Newpark Mall Road.
 
9:59 PM Officer Cervantes was dispatched to a report of shoplifting near Jarvis Ave & Newark Blvd.
 
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15, 2025:
 
12:58 PM Officer Diaz-Perez investigated multiple package thefts, and a stolen license plate reported near Willow St & Enterprise Dr.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 16, 2025:
 
1:50 AM Officer Soto recovered a stolen vehicle and license plate while on patrol near Willow St & Central Ave.
 
3:17 AM Officer Norvell investigated a report of stolen shoes from the area of Sycamore St & Graham Ave.
 
5:42 AM Officer Orozco responded to a carjacking reported on Mayhews Landing Road & Christine St. The vehicle was later recovered unoccupied during routine patrols.
 
8:40 AM Officer Berlanga investigated a vehicle theft reported near Cedar Blvd & Robertson Ave.
 
12:01 PM CSO Lau investigated package theft reports near Central Ave/Willow St and Lake Blvd/Cedar Blvd.
 
1:53 PM CSO Lau was dispatched to an attempted vehicle theft near Sycamore St & Graham Ave. A window was observed shattered and ignition compartment tampered. A wallet was taken from the vehicle and additional unauthorized credit card transactions were reported.
 
3:15 PM Officer Lor investigated a jewelry swap scam on Newark Blvd & Jarvis Ave.
 
9:00 PM Officer Swadener investigated multiple vehicle burglaries reported near Cedar Blvd & Mowry Ave.
 
FRIDAY, JANUARY 17, 2025:
 
7:52 AM Officer Berlanga responded to a vehicle theft reported near Christine St & Montcalm Ave.
 
11:13 AM Officer Diaz-Perez responded to the report of an unruly subject near Cherry St & Mowry Ave. A 28-year-old male was arrested for outstanding warrants and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
12:10 PM Officer C. Torres investigated a vehicle theft reported near Jarvis Ave & Newark Blvd.
 
1:44 PM Officer Berlanga investigated a report of mail theft and check fraud near Clark Ave & Cherry St.
 
2:22 PM Officer Lor responded to a residential burglary near Parkshore & Lake Boulevards.
 
4:19 PM Officer Kim investigated a package theft near Byington Dr & Cedar Blvd.
 
8:19 PM Officer Williams initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle with no license plates near Sycamore St & Thornton Ave. A 26-year-old male was cited for driving with a suspended license and was released on scene.
 
9:44 PM Officer Stevenson investigated a robbery involving a firearm near Thornton Ave & Sycamore St. Reported loss included a wallet and small bag.
 
SATURDAY, JANUARY 18, 2025:
 
12:03 AM Officer Williams initiated a pedestrian stop near Cedar Blvd & Mowry Ave. A 48-year-old male was arrested for possession of narcotics. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
12:53 AM Officer Kapu responded to Cedar Blvd & Mowry School Road for an unruly subject reported in the area. A 64-year-old male was located and arrested for public intoxication. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
7:00 AM Officer C. Torres investigated a vehicle theft reported near Joaquin Murrieta Ave & Cherry St.
 
3:12 PM Officer Frentescu responded to a domestic disturbance near Cherry St & Mayhews Landing Road.
 
SUNDAY, JANUARY 19, 2025:
 
2:40 AM Officer Lara was on routine patrol near Cherry St & Mowry Ave. and initiated a traffic stop. A 37-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
3:34 AM Officer Swadener responded to a solo vehicle collision into a tree. A 26-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
6:52 AM Officer Taylor investigated a vehicle theft with visible damage to the ignition near Baine Ave & Cherry St.
 
11:50 AM Officer Taylor investigated a package theft reported near Seawind Way & Willow St.
