WEST SPRINGFIELD SEEKS VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE ON THE CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE

West Springfield, MA:  The Town of West Springfield is inviting interested individuals to apply for membership on the Charter Review Committee, as mandated by the Town’s Home Rule Charter. This committee plays a vital role in examining the Town’s governing structure and recommending any necessary changes or updates to ensure that it meets the evolving needs of the community.

The Town’s Home Rule Charter requires that a review of the charter take place in years that end in five. This review will help ensure that the Town’s governance remains effective, transparent, and responsive to the needs of its residents. The committee will be tasked with assessing various provisions of the charter and making recommendations for potential revisions to improve the functioning of local government.

The Town is seeking a diverse group of volunteers to ensure a broad range of perspectives. Committee members will be expected to attend regular meetings and participate in the review and recommendation process. The committee’s work will culminate in a report to the Town Council, which will consider any proposed charter amendments.

“Active involvement in local government is key to fostering an engaged community,” commented Mayor Reichelt.  “Reviewing our Home Rule Charter ensures that the Town’s governing structure evolves with the times, reflects the needs of our residents, and upholds the values of transparency and accountability. It’s an opportunity for all of us to shape the future of our community together, ensuring that our local government remains responsive, effective, and inclusive."

Residents interested in serving on the advisory group are encouraged to submit their applications by Friday, January 31. Applications can be completed online at https://tinyurl.com/WSCharterReview.  The Town of West Springfield encourages all residents with an interest in improving local governance to apply. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the future of the Town and help shape its direction for years to come.
