14 Cited / 3 arrested at Berkeley DUI / Driver License Checkpoint

On January 17, 2025, the Berkeley Police Department conducted a DUI and driver license checkpoint on Ashby Ave at San Pablo Ave.

681 drivers were contacted at the checkpoint. 14 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license. 2 drivers were arrested for DUI; one of the DUI drivers was also arrested for child endangerment due to driving under the influence with minor children in the vehicle. 1 driver was arrested for failing to comply with the DUI checkpoint, driving without a license, and violation of probation.

An additional 9 drivers were evaluated for DUI and released.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.

The next DUI checkpoint will be held on February 13, 2025.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
